Terms of use
The short version: Aetherchord is a free, unfinished game. Anything in it can be wiped at any time. You must be 16 or older. Play fair, be decent, and report bugs instead of using them.
1. Who runs the game
Aetherchord is run by Max & Jonas in Sweden ("we", "us"). You can reach us at contact@aetherchord.com or in the in-game forum (F9).
2. A free public beta
The game is in public beta. It is free to play, there is nothing to buy, and it is unfinished: expect bugs, downtime, changes and rebalancing. We may change, pause or end the beta, or the game, at any time.
3. Wipes
Anything can be wiped at any time. The game can go down, the whole world can be remade, and any character and any item can be reset - with or without warning, and without compensation. Nothing you earn in the game has any money value, and you have no claim to keep it.
4. Age limit
You must be 16 or older to play or to create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we will delete it.
5. Your account
Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account. One account belongs to one person. Tell us if you think someone else has used yours.
6. Fair play
Follow the Code of conduct. In particular, do not:
- use cheats, bots or other automation, or modified game clients;
- exploit bugs - report them in the in-game forum (F9) instead;
- attack, overload or try to break into the servers, or use other players' accounts;
- harass, threaten or abuse other players.
If you do, we may warn or mute you, reset what you gained, or suspend or delete your characters and account - without warning in clear or serious cases, and without compensation.
7. The software
Aetherchord is closed-source software; all rights in the game, its code, art, music and texts belong to us or our licensors. You may play it through the official website for your own enjoyment. You may not copy, sell or redistribute the game or any part of it, run your own servers for it, or reverse engineer, decompile or probe the server and its interfaces beyond normal play - except where the law expressly allows it. Third-party components we use stay under their own licences.
8. What you write
Chat messages, forum posts, and the names you choose for characters, guilds and the like stay yours. You allow us to store, show, and moderate them as needed to run the game and the forum - which includes showing them to other players. Do not post anything illegal, hateful or sexual, other people's private information, or your own passwords. We may remove anything that breaks these terms or the Code of conduct, and rename offensive names. Chat and the forum are not private spaces: moderators may read messages that are reported to them, and the gameplay recordings described in the Privacy Policy include the chat a player saw - whispers, party and guild chat too - with every name replaced by a nickname.
9. No warranty
The game is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for lost characters, items, progress or time, for interruptions, or for indirect damage. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law, or our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited (for example for intent or gross negligence).
10. Changes
We may update these terms. When we change them in substance, the game shows you a notice. If you keep playing after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, stop playing and ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy notice). You can stop playing at any time.
11. Law
Swedish law applies to these terms. If you live in the EU as a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country, and you may bring a dispute before the courts where you live.
